Boilermaker's District 11 History Prior to 1984 the Cement, Lime, Gypsum and Allied Workers Union represented our members in Western Canada. When we merged with the Boilermakers in 1984, these workers in Western Canada formed District-11 of the Boilermaker's Union. As members of D-11 we belong to the international but we elect our own Business Manager and maintain our own funds which are used for programs which benefit our membership.

D-11 is made up of 13 Local Lodges with a membership of about 950 people. Our members work primarily in the cement, wall board, and quarrying industries. We have, however represented members in such diverse industries as laundry workers and roofing materials. The formation of D-11 has allowed the 13 Local Lodges to forge very close relationships amongst the members and allows us to react quickly when any of our Lodges finds themselves in trouble. This is especially critical in times of job action when members of affected Locals have recieved much needed financial help. Delegates of all Locals meet twice a year to share information and to form policies that are good for all of our members. District-11 also maintains strong ties with the Construction Boilermaker Lodges in Western Canada and with the Boilermakers International. |
